Howdy all, our school's orchestra is doing a patriotic-ish concert that includes the 1812, my question is which trumpet is prefered for this piece, Bb or C? Thanks!

There are trumpets AND cornets in the score.
The work has nothing to do with OUR 1812 conflict, it's about France and Russia's set-to.

This is what I used for the 1812 Overture for the past few nights. :)
There was also four larger artilary guns off camera and two more out on the lawn. This was our annual show "Fortissimo". It is put on by the Band of the Ceremonial Guard every summer on Parliament Hill (Ottawa, Canada)

having not had the (mis)fortune to play this piece, but from looking at the parts I would probably do the cornet parts on either cornet or c trumpet and the Eb parts on c trumpet or maybe Eb trumpet (have large bore long bell Eb)

I really don't care much for this piece, and wonder why we shoot fireworks off to this for US patriotic events.

    Yee HAW!
Careful there, Eric... you'll be giving some of our TM neighbours "caliber envy". (shouldn't this be posted in a different forum?) :)

This was the first professional (as in getting paid) orchestra job I ever did. It was back in 9th grade.

Two Bb Trumpets and Two Eb Trumpets were used. I got to play 2nd Eb Trumpet part. We all used C trumpets on this.
