3rd valve slide: cream, valve oil or a mix?

    I use grease, and then drip a couple drops of oil on the third valve slide, as well as the first (especially if it has a trigger). You'd better have a stop, like others have said, because they will fly.

    MFfan, For sure your Besson 609 was produced by Kanstul under contract with Boosey & Hawkes when they owned the Besson brand. I have one also and believe it is a very nice upper end student trumpet.

    Used to use vaseline all round, and still do on 2nd and main.

    Currently using ISO 22 spindle oil (~sewing machine oil) on 1st and 3rd. Super-slick.

    Hetmans bearing and linkage oil. Thicker than oil, thinner than grease. On a clean, aligned slide, it works like glass.

    Flip Oakes' recipe - anhydrous lanolin & petroleum jelly 50/50 melted together.

    Stihl chainsaw bar oil, best I have found in 20+ years of trying all sorts, extremly slick and lasts.

    Hetman light slide oil for 1st and 3rd slides is what I have. Seems pretty good.

    Anybody try Udder Cream? Bet that would make the valves really mooooove
