3rd valve slide: cream, valve oil or a mix?

    Thanks Seth. From the reference you posted, that would put Martin's claim into the nontraditional spectrum. So perhaps this was the start of the new tolerances. Looking forward to Ivan's reply.

    And sure can stink up a case when it becomes rancid, and wouldn't smell good to me if I set on either side of you ... some might even ask when the last time you took a bath was. The same with lard ... but the latter worked well on many horse drawn wagon wheel hubs and spindles.

    Mostly my "grease" is pure anhydrous lanolin. Also apply it to threads of valve caps. A drop of valve oil added on the valve slides makes them as slick as a trombone slide, and I concur you may be chasing a valve slide if you've no stop ... the disaster as may also be an alignment issue beyond a dent in the crook bow. I stated something similar elsewhere here.

    Hetman #3, it is like a medium weight oil and the slide does its thing! I use it on the first and third slides.

    Fat ? I don't know but it can be flat if you pull too much.
