I've been collecting trumpet books obsessively and I have most of "the" ones, still missing Claude Gordon's Systematic Approach .... and .... Deep Breathing, and I need a Clarke's Characteristic Studies (but have two Technical Studies lol) and this exercise in various forms just seems to be "around".

Wasn't Gordon also in favor of, holding the last note until you're just OUT of air? That IS like doing a crunch.

The 7 in 7 thing is great though, my range is going UP.

Claude Gordon's method requires one to hold the last was big on pushing out the last note until the air is exhausted and the push a little more. This is to develop the muscles one uses to support the higher notes. But it's only in exercise 1 of each less; in exercise II you are not expected to hold the top note longer than a couple of beats.

Also,, which CG exercise is this 7 in 7 thing supposed to emulate. I'm sure I fully grok what you guys are going on about :)
