I have gotten into the habit of playing taps off my back porch at 10:00 every night. To remember the people who died during 9/11, I'm asking anyone willing to play taps off their porch tomorrow night.

If you don't know how to play taps, its on the US Army Bands Website.

I was going to play it twice in the morning.

Once for each Tower 45 minutes apart.

Thats a great idea, I'll do it.

What if we all agree at a certain time to do it, not just randomly. But how about at 9:11pm if thats not too cliche'...

I really like Manny's idea. I'm going to go for that.

I like your idea - playing it both times - starting at 9:11

Manny: each tower was hit 17 minutes apart - not 45.

i was thinking about 'taps-ing' our courthouse square this evening.

what key do y'all prefer for the call? lately, i've been using G. nothing wrong with any key, really.

some old bugles were built in G, & the new getzen ahft comes with a G slide.

So, I just finished the second call. It's amazing how the flood of feelings comes back so easily. Good, I suppose. I don't want to forget how much it hurt to see the Towers that I saw being built destroyed along with the lives that would be forever altered.

I played the first call at 8:03 CST. As I was ending it I could clearly hear the approach of a jetliner overheard. It was a very spooky thing to hear that crescendo into my diminuendo. The continuation of life during an acknowledgement of death, perhaps.

I encourage those who are so inclined to perform this simple act. It's not for everybody, I know. As I say, if you want to but are shy, give it a shot anyway. You may be surprised how many people would appreciate the sentiment.
