Last Friday, we sadly had to say farewell to an old friend of mine - a man of only 61 who passed away due to an undiscovered heart attack. He had been involved in all kinds of things, from folk dancing to stamp collection and vintage cars so there was huge turnout at the graveside - several hundred at least.
Amongst them - 14 trumpet players, all in the intention of playing a last farewell as the coffin sank. Fortunately, most of us were just in time for the funeral so that we did not fit into the hall but had to wait outside... and we concocted an ad hoc plan...
And when the mourners arrived at the grave after a procession of almost two miles from the mortuary (yes, Vienna's Central Cemetery is huge!) there were fourteen trumpet players ranged up in battle array (we had gone ahead by car) to play "Amazing Grace" in unison. Many of the mourners sang with us... a really moving tribute to a man many called a good friend. RIP, Stefan.

I'm sorry for your loss. Vienna's cemetery is a beautiful one.
