A sample of Romanian virtuosity !

    I can appreciate those cats have great chops ... but the second video sounded like they were putting parts of the song from the first video in between a chordal sequence I couldn't comprehend. I also can't understand why anyone would play a pocket trumpet for a recording.
    Thanks for these post .. the exposure was definitely an experience.

    Actually, that seems to be a feature from Austria eastwards... Many wind-band-trained trumpet players use 3 instead of 12... for whatever reasons. Can't be for intonation - they're usually off by a mile.

    I couldn't tell if the chordal structure was using quarter-tones or if that was just poor intonation.

    3rd valve instead of 12 is used where a faster technique is required ...sometimes you can't make trills and other efects using standard valve combination ( like E and Eb - it's easier to use 3 and 23 instead or 12 and 23 ) .

    Maybe also poor intonation, but yes they use quarter-tones, at least for ornamentation.

    I really thought that ... my western ear just can't get into that. I tried to like Don Ellis and just never could get into that 4th valve of his.

    ..yes..i am as well from Balkan,slight diferences between Gypsy music are ( from spain,over hungary till Romania)..if you want to listen to some of these local mmastres and their bands( they are mainly amatuers)..these have won few times Guća meeting,

    and we have to consider that it is a music,they play, so called "Music for funerals and wedings " there is an Goran bregović album as well.

    Europe was not closed,and countries inside..boundaries are in mind.
