Here is a tribute site for one of the absolute US American cornet monsters! There are many MP3s to document his mastery of this wonderful instrument!

Glad you got it. Cornets are fun to play in the right situations. Listen to recordings of great cornet players and get an idea of the sound and style of their playing. I'm partial to cornets and play one most of the time, but I still wield a trumpet when the music calls for one...;-)

Thanks. could you elaborate on cornetists to listen to.

So my cornet is an Olds LA Ambassador. Sooo, either I have to get a custom mpc for alot. OR put in a new receiver. THe part form kanstul costs 15 dollars if the people at hte shop dont have one laying around.

Would this wreck the value of the horn or the playability of it? is it a hard repair (I wouldnt do it myself)

I got Olds Ambassador as well. Recently replaced the trumpet receiver (not my self, done by repairmen) and it works fine now with my Wick 4W mouthpiece.

For delacquering and polishing an instrument this is the procedure I am gathering....
    (old instruments)

Tub of hot water (boiling?) for an hour or two
Polish with Brasso (what would I use to apply the Brasso)
and then a thin coat of Turtle Wax or somethign like that to keep it from tarnishign to fast.

I always enjoyed the album "Cornet Favorites" recorded by Gerald
Schwartz with William Bolcom on the piano...
