I listened to Rowuks thread reply in "fluid chops".:play:
Adam Rapa's mouthpiece cups appear to be much smaller than my Bach 5C.
I am having problems now with my facial hair being forced back into my upper lip after only a few hours after shaving. It feels like needles and is quite painful.:-(
Does anyone else find this so? Would a smaller diameter cup help? I am still building my chops and it is not to late to change if need be.

    Bruce,
I think you just need to stick with the pain for a little while longer. Once you get used to it, it isn't all that noticable.
Don't forget, the difference in mouthpiece sizes is measured in hundreths of an inch. The facial footprint of a 10 1/2E is not much different than a 1X even if the geeks make a big deal out of the cup size.

You know that I am not very big on recommending mouthpieces over the internet, but if your 5C is a Bach, the rim is pretty sharp. You may want to look at similar sized mouthpieces with a more "rounded" rim. The other possibility is some type of lubricant or moisturizer.

Bruce - do you use an electric or blade razor? I used to have problems with an electric - ingrown whiskers, etc. Usually happened at the most inopportune time (right before recitals, auditions, etc), probably do to a ramp-up of practice time. When I switched to a blade, the problems went away, as the blade shaves much closer.

If this doesn't work, then perhaps estrogen therapy is in order. :D

I just shaved off my "mo" to see if it helped. :-(
I do use an electric so I will try a blade. If I bleed to death, I will not post here any more!ROFL

We use very sharp sheep shears, and with a wide comb you don't get the rash; downside is if you nick yourself you'll need a few stitches...

New Zealander's have it down to a T.
