Hey, that guy's pretty good!!
Doc is and was an astonishing player. I love how the entire orchestra is reading off of charts, but he's up there just nailing it all from memory.
he’s such a household name now that we forget just how special his playing is. The sound, the amazing articulation, the low register that somehow has the same intensity as the extreme upper. Truly amazing. Plus I mean, come on. That suit is STYLIN!
Doc for me is a consummate professional and above all others period.
I say that not because he is technically better than anyone else I would not be so presumptious to claim that, but he is profoundly talented, a downright nice guy who has flair stage presence and a great sense of fun, he is always having a ball, but he is always presenting the very best he can be.
As for this performance, my computer wont play the clip but from memory (yes I am familiar with much of Docs work) the drummer is very weak, more like a high school kid than a professional drummer he mars the performance, pedestrian does not even cover it. Any other top professional would be kicking that bums ass, but Doc worked with him.
Without a shadow of a doubt Doc is the best and a worthy Trumpet Ambassador.
Doc, like many featured performers, carry with them the charts they've played a bazillion times while often the musical accompaniment is assembled just for the occasion. But, Patrick, you knew that.
We need to credit Doc for his support of the rechargeable battery industry. Keeping those suits lit up must have cost a fortune!
So that's what they mean when they say Doc gave an electrifying performance....
