I'm a trumpet player for good ol Uncle Sam. So I'm doing my job today playing taps at a funeral for a vet. We get there way early and I'm walking around this mauseleoum looking at all the names and stuff like I usually do when I'm trying to kill time. And whose remains to I come across? Al Hirt! They had his ashes in a nice wooden box, and there was even an Al Hirt model jet tone piece in the little display. I played just around the corner from his final resting place. No pressure huh?

    Very cool Missednote :-)

We have to wonder how much of that goes on considering we've laid to rest so many great symphonic and jazz players.

If you believe in such things, lets hope Mr. Hirt's spirit zapped down to hear your performance and give you that extra :play: to get you through it.

Too bad you don't a picture to post here of his resting place.

Well I would make a learned assumption that it was in New Orleans since nowhere in your revelation do you mention where you were?? Your info marker says Naples Italy..C'mon fess up!!! I have seen a statue of Jumbo somewhere there in Nawlins but I would assume Jumbo has a mausoleum in his honor somewhere in the city. Thanks

You are correct in your assumption. Al Hirt is buried in the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.

Yeah I saw the date but thanks for "chiming in"-very predictable-- just sorta irked me that a entrant would comment on something like that( a funeral) without saying where he was..
