I do agree with Brekelefuw, that anxiety is one of the greatest causes of "dry mouth" and in this situation, self confidence, not water is needed.

Vitamin Pee is a good indicator of total body hydration.

If he doesn't want to see you drinking water, just disguise it by putting it in a Johnny Walker bottle.

Can't agree with that. Been playing for 30 years. Performing most weekends every summer, both in formal concerts and fetes, garden parties etc. Including solos standing out front of the band, so nothing at all to do with performing experience. Just like to sip water between pieces to keep my mouth and throat lubricated. Each to their own.

I find that a Camelbak is most effective since I can put the bladder inside my shirt and have the tube can go up my sleeve. You can just put you hand to your mouth and have a drink. Quick, easy, discreet. Although it may be a little uncomfortable.

This is why you have tubas in a band. It is somewhere to hide your beer.

I would have been happy for a little "drier" mouth yesterday while playing on an unventilated stage of a Middle School. I don't care for perspiration on my lips while playing. I'm in the dry camp on that one.......I know it's not the answer to the original post. I don't mind a sip of water now and then, just need to dry the lips when I'm done........
