Does anyone know of a website that details the proper terms and labels for each specific part of a trumpet and/or cornet? I'm trying to flesh out some product specs, but I'm a trombone player by trade and want to make sure I'm calling the right part by the correct name.

    thanks!

You don't need to go to a website. I'll be happy to tell you the parts:
    Front
    Back
    Top
    Bottom
    Mouthpiece
    Bell
    Valves
    Tubing, straight
    Tubing, bent
Funny part where your thumb goes
Other funny part where your other thumb goes.
Strange little bent thing where you rest your right pinky.

    That's it.

I think an Arban's book will have that info or another good old fashioned method book.

    A bit more technical...

Try looking for the book "Acoustical Foundations of Music" by Backus. It might be a bit tough to locate, but it has some great technical info on barsses without resorting to a lot of math oriented discussion.

Also, check out Tom Rossing's book,"The Science of Sound." Rossing cites Backus.

Also books by Arthur Benade might be of some help.

FWIIW coming from me, I love the Backus book. I use it in my physics classes as a resource when we do our acoustics unit.

You may not be looking for that much techno stuff, bu in additon to teh Arbans book, you ought to have plenty.

    Peace.

Thanks all for the recommendations - it looks like most are available through Amazon so I have some browsing to do!

... not to be confused with "arses" .... (there are plenty of them around).

You might want to look for Eric Brand's Repair Manual and Ferree's tool shop, or Allied music for a catalogue.
