The glissandos at the beginning of ''Wonderland by night''... by Bert Kempfert....
Always assumed it was Bert. Sound is fat and bright like his.
It was Charly Tabor
Just learned something. As a young kid we had his albums around the house. Because they were so trumpet solo loaded, I just assumed he was a ("the") trumpet player. Seemed like some even had a trumpet on the front. Apparently he didn't even play trumpet. Live and learn.
That album was one of my big inspirations when I was starting out
Ok, I went on a swingin' safari... and found a bunch of his video... here is one that discusses his musicians..
And.... (next post....)
I just wish it showed him doing the glissandos......
I am going to disagree and say it was Manfred Moch. Here is a clip.
Yes, your link is another version of the second video that I posted above but it does seem that Charly Tabor was with Bert at the very beginning.... according to other posts on another trumpet "forum"........ Then Manfred Moch stepped into the solo chair afterwards.
And then I found this.... for the original ''mono'' version of the album. It does list Charly Tabor in the credits as trumpet soloist.
My thinking ''out loud'' got me looking and cleared up the question for others as well...
Thank you all!!!
