A friend of mine tells me Vachiano used to reccomend two French horn study books. These studies were commonly referred to as the "Red" book and the "Blue" book because of their front covere. They are supposed to be excellent sources of study material. I would like to order these books if they are still in print. Does anyone know the official title and/or author?

    Talcito,

The books I remember him asking us to get for transposition were Pottag and Koprasch. Don't know if those are the ones you're looking for in particular. They are similar to the studies in the Sachse book and work well for the high transpositions like F, E and Eb.

    Hi Manny:

    Thank you for your response.

The books were primarily etude books for french horn players. They were not necessarily used for transposition purposes, but simply used as good etude books. The player would play the notes as written and just lay out on the notes that were too low.

I will check out your suggestions and let everyone know if the books you mentioned may be the ones.

    Thank you!
