Arbans is beating me up pretty good...

    Arbans..a must have ... you might want to suppliment it with Allen Vizzutti's Book 1 .... I believe it has exercises that kehaulani refers to. There are quite a few other method books with these type of exercises but you also get a few other types of exercises like technical studies that you might find benificial.

    I just began my Arban beatings a couple weeks ago and all I can say is thank you sir can I have another!

    I've been playing for a little over two years now and I figured I'd buzz right through the first 50 or so exercises. Not so at all! I've been working out of Herb Clark Method (forget which one) and a couple other no name books. I've got my scales and lip trills down pat (for my level), lots of medium level etudes, etc. So I was surprised to see how much interval work there was right up front and how much trouble I had/am having.

    Do you think that was intentional (early interval work and lots of staccato)?
