As we mourn the recent passing of Vincent Cichowicz, please take a moment to remember another of the great trumpet players and teachers of our time, Armando Ghitalla. It was five years ago, today, that Ghitalla passed away in Houston. Though he is no longer with us, his teachings live on in his students and his recordings. It is hard to know how to treat a day like today, as I try and remember my teacher and friend. So, what I will do is practice, pop in one of his recordings, and sit back with a nice glass of wine. That's what he would have done.

'Just took delivery of Armando's 1914 Conn Circus Bore Gold Cornet . . . what an honor and what an instrument! 96 years old: we should all be in such condition and wonderful voice at that age! Can't keep it in the case - this one will see many more years of performance time! No that I could ever do it like Dr. Ghitalla!
