    Hi gang,

In about two weeks the group of kids that I teach and work with are playing in a family Xmas service. The first carol will be Away in a Manger as a congregational piece the second will be While Shepherds Watched as a Band Piece. I'd like to do something with it other than just play three or so verses of the carol. it has to be easy two kids are grade 1 and one is grade 3 roughly, any ideas would be really helpful. Normally arrangement comes easy to me but my mind has gone blank.

    Helllllppppp

    Cheers

    A

Cheapo version is to take the alto part up an octave in the second verse.

How about if you have the kids dress up as Shepards, and they gather around you to watch you play a solo chorus: Hence - While Shepherds Watched. Yes?!

Use a horn with a shepard's crook. For that extra effect.

Cannot wait for the self portrate. Make sure you leave both ears intact.

Both ears in view vis anterior and posterior of the head would make it difficult to discern a shepherd's crook ... unless it were not part of musical instrument ala the real item like my Scottish Cromach.

Andy's an artist. Don't want him going Picasso on us. I know for what I am discussing here... for once.

Years back, the Kinderkirche assigned roles for the Nativity. All excited, my daughter announced that she got to be an Angel, and her younger brother, even more exited, proudly announced that he got to be a sheep! The better gig, actually--he got to wear a sheepskin, crawl around and make "bahh" sounds. His sister had to learn lines and sing.

How about a simple contrapuntal part over the melody?
    What is your instrumentation?
