    So I went to a military funeral this afternoon for an old family friend, and they played a recording of taps which would have been about pianissimo volume....if they'd turned it up significantly

    A guy in uniform stood off to one side with a bugle to his lips, and it was painfully obvious to even the most obtuse that he wasn't doing anything besides provide a bit of decorum. I thought the whole thing was quite cheesy. I almost wanted to interrupt the funeral and say, "Excuse me, I've got a trumpet in my car, or just loan me the bugle and I'll handle this."

    Anyway, I decided that when I retire some day I'd like to commit to being available for such things.

    The guy in the recording was phenomenally good, though. At least, I think he was since I could barely hear, and I was less than 15 feet from the speaker.
