    Hello,

I am looking to buy a trumpet that I will take in overseas and leave it there. I will be playing it once a year when I get there and I just don't want to carry in the airplanes. I was told I should get Yamaha 2335 but I just saw a almost new Bach TR500 for $450. What would you advise?

Yamaha 2335 trumpets tend to have valves fitted too closely, so they are very likely to stick fast if left for extended periods. Ditto with the main tuning slide. If you buy this model be absolutely certain that you grease the slide and bathe the valves in a heavy oil before you leave it. It will need to be cleaned thoroughly when you return to play it again. I would be more inclined to buy an old US made horn with sloppy valves; it will likely play better anyway.

I agree with Ivan. For that kind of money you could buy an Olds Ambassador or Getzen 300 and a decent carry-on case. If that's not the plan though, I would still get an Ambassador or Getzen if that is an option.
I would avoid the Bach TR500.

I wonder why there is not more mention of the King 600 (earlier called Cleveland). These were really great trumpets.

I don't know? I have a Cleveland Superior and it's decent enough. Just pulled it out to play ;-). It's a little brassy with my regular mpc. It's a little better with the King M-18 mpc. King 600's are plentiful and cheap.

    Thanks for your replies!

So your advise is to avoid Yamaha 2335 and get a cheap US built trumpet like Getzen 300 or Olds Ambassador?
