Any non-repairguy suggestions? I think I've tried all the home cures. It's an old one and I can't get it to budge with the snap the long cloth or wide belt method. I also slightly(and timidly)heated it with hot water, no go........

Try going to your local hardware store and getting the smallest rubber hammer you can find. Gently tap each side of the brass repetedly until you see some mvement. Don't be shy about using hot water either. That's worked a few times for me before as well.

I think the bottom line is, don't get in this mess! My problem has always been that I don't really feel I need to adjust my tuning slide very musch, especially on the Monette. I always have to remember to move it just for the sake of moving it and reapply grease every once in a while.

Thank you, the deal is this is a 1931 and I don't know the last time it was moved..... I will probably be sending it to Charlie after I try my few things......

Sending it to Charlie Melk is a great idea. Although, if you're out on the east coast, I cannot recommend Ken Pope enough. He's pulled many a slide for me, as well as many other things.

If it's really stuck I would send/take it to a repair shop rather than attempt the rubber hammer thing.
