:dontknow: on my 40 year old cornet the bell is a little bent. would that affect the sound? when making a trumpet bell how do they know when the bell is the size they need it.

A small bend normally won't impact your sound much. Check out the Getzen factory videos to see how they make horns Getzen : Videos and/or check out the tour of the Yamaha plant with Jens Lindemann Jens Lindemann's Web Quarters and find "Making Trumpets" at the bottom of the page.

There are courses to learn this. A good start is the natural trumpet building classes documented here:

    Workshops

If you think sheet brass is expensive, wait till you find out what valves cost..........

Bauerfeind valves cost over a grand if you are buying small quantities.

Wish I could understand the second and third video. Its German right. Now if the video was Russian or Ukrainian I could understand. I noticed the 1st and second video they made the trumpet bell differently. In the third video the guy made the bell separate then welded it on to the rest of the trumpet. That's what they do on trombones. The Lego trumpet is cool.
