Freddie Hubbard - I Remember Clifford
I really enjoy this one.
On a more serious note, I've always been very taken with the way Sergei Nakariakov plays - For me, when it comes to classical trumpet, he's the current standard I compare everyone else to. He's got phenomenal technical chops, but he has a very pure, velvety tone, and he's very, very musical - that's just my opinion though.
When I heard Nakariakov play this piece at the 2008 ITG in Banff, it was the best musical experience of my life. Still may be. Anyone else there? Do you remember how fast the audience was on their feet after that one?
Hey trumpeters! These days i listen to Avishai Cohen. I love this song and his interpretation. Enjoy"!
Wow. I just don't have the words to express my total awe when I hear Sergei play
I like this:
That trumpet section plays well but man, they all have pretty bad posture. =)
Possibly the manliest band in the land!
To contrast, a pretty good performance by Alison Balsom (She's played it better, but I can't find a high quality video link):
On August 9, 1974, while en route to a scheduled performance at the Jackson County Fair, Chase died in the crash of a chartered twin-engine Piper Twin Comanche in Jackson, Minnesota at the age of 39. Also killed, along with the pilot, Daniel Ludwig of Chicago and Co-Pilot Linda Swisher of Wheeling, Illinois, were keyboardist Wally Yohn, drummer Walter Clark and guitarist John Emma.
This isn't necessarily "the best," but I love watching it!!
