Does anyone know of any biographies or auto biographies of jazz trumpet players from the past .... 40's 50's 60's ..... that are a good read?

I especially want to read about guys like Miles, Dizzy, Louis, Lee Morgan, etc .... About their lives as well as their careers.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Trent!!!

That Miles one has to be good .... I've heard him in interviews and he's pretty blunt. What a crazy life he had! Looking forward to that!!!

Both are very good reads about two of the best ever.

    I recommend them both.

Bit tough to read and harrowing in places but worth it.

'To Be or Not to Bop' by Diz
Leonard Feather did a book in the 60s (I think) about jazz trumpeters
'Delightfulee' just came out last year about Lee Morgan
the Louis Armstrong biography by Terry Teachout is excellent
If you want a good bio on Miles, the best is the one by Ian Carr
