Just wanted everyone to know about a great BBC site. BBC Radio Two posts sound clips of "REAL" British Brass Bands every week. You can hear the best AND the rest there. Just point your browser to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/index.shtml?logo and then click on "Listen Again" over on the right hand side. Once there, select "Listen To The Band" and awayyy you go. Lots of other good music there as well. Don'cha just love the net? Distance disappears! Oh yeah...did I fail to mention that Roger Webster is a featured soloist in this week's list? Or that Grimethorpe Colliery Band is represented? And the Black Dyke? and the Coldstream Guards? You can hear it in the privacy of your own home if you are embarrased to admit that you listen to "Brass Bands"! No one need every know. But be careful... cornet sounds can lead to cornet playing which can be addictive.
Very many thanks...even I wasn't aware of that facility and I live in the UK......check out this site for CDs of many British brass bands...shipping fees to the USA are quite reasonable. http://www.doyen-recordings.co.uk/
Have you come across World of Brass Radio yet? An hour long programme, hosted by John Maines, on the World of Brass website. A new programme is added every week and a rolling 4 weeks worth of programmes is always available.
Check out Brass Band podcast from Britain Ireland USA Canada Australia New Zealand Japan Belgium my band is featured for the week of 1-11-09. Wide assortment of world bands , one featured each week.
Thanks for posting this site. Great stuff! I am just listening to the latest program. Pretty easy to navigate.
Thanks for mentioning that site, haven't listened to it for some time. Not ashamed to admit I love brass band music, both the "real thing" and other versions such as our nearby Brass Band of Battle Creek, whose concerts we have marvelled at for years and were lucky enough for them to guest at a couple of holiday concerts with our KCB.
Here's another one from Down Under called Brass Encounters: Brass Encounters / 2NUR / University Services / The University of Newcastle, Australia Geoff McGregor is the host, and he's had the program for 23 years. Enjoy, Bill
