I have read that schlueter plans to retire after the 2006 Tanglewood season.
When will the BSO hold their auditions for principle trumpet? Has the audition already taken place? I'm curious as to if any big names will take the actual audition... or if the audition is over, who advanced to the finals and who won.

I had heard Tom Rolfes had won from an unreliable source. Congratulations to him though. He is a fantastic player and I always enjoyed listening to him as principle of the pops this past summer.

I find it interesting that Tom studied with Charlie when Charlie was teaching at the University of Minnesota. How many other great brass players taught their eventual replacements? Vacchiano and Jacobs come to mind... just food for thought I guess

Pardon the interruption for this brief spelling lesson:

Remember, the princiPAL trumpet is your PAL, but he's not the most principled guy!

When Leon Rapier passed away, his replacements at the university and in the orchestra were previous students. (Mike Tunnell and John Rommel). I thought that was pretty cool when it happened.

In the finals, allegedly, were Dave Krauss and Mark Ridenour and I think one other. I know both Ben Wright and Matt Muckey each went far in the audition though.

I know this isn't a replacement, but Herseth was Tim Kent's teacher.
