I have a Holton bass trumpet that I sent to the factory back in the 50's they changed the tubing. From B flat to C. I did this so I could read off lead sheets while playing keyboards. I'm no 80 years old and need to play off B flat trumpets. Any way I can be able to switch back and forth?

thank you trailer801 Rapid City SD on the road 50 years. now going to play in senior dance band

As long as you have long enough slide legs, just pull them out until it plays in tune.

If not, you might get it reconverted back to Bb, or consider a set of new slides.

I'm somewhat surprised to hear you have a bass trumpet. What sort of things did you play on it?

Bass trumpets have a lot more tubing than regular trumpets, so depending on how the original conversion was done, it moght not be as easy as getting a longer tuning slide.

If you really want your horn to do both Bb and C i'd recommend contacting one of the custom trumpet guys like Tom Green and see what they recommend.

thank you for your help. I would concerting changeable tub larry ward slides. How do I contact Tom Green? As to what I was playing. I was playing pop tunes on the c trumpet along with the left hand playing keyboards also playing bass pedals. Originally trombone player using Conn 6H played 5 years 503 Air Force band 1948 then on many hotel bands I also had my conn trumpet pitched in C.

The Bb trumpet plays a step higher than a C with 2 sharps added to key signature vis 2 sharps added would nullify 2 flats. I've never had a problem in sight reading this transposition.
