    friend manny:

i've listened to the chausson Bb sym a few times this past holiday weekend and find it enjoyable (dallas/mata). have you performed it much? there are some pretty trumpet lines in it.

Gorgeous piece! I've played it with a variety of conductors, the most recent being Akiyama. It has a lick that rises a minor 9th from an F to a Gb and is a defining moment that the trumpet has the honor of playing in the last movement.

That lick, back in the good old days, lost more auditions than any other :-o The orchestral repertoire has changed so much. I love this work.

    manny & wilmer:

    thank you very much.
was he also quoting dvorak's new world finale, or was dvorak building on chausson's melody. i have forgotten the years of the compositions...both from the 1890s i believe.
