Chris Martin and the Haydn trumpet Concerto

    Well guys, I took a little road trip over to Atlanta last night to hear Chris Martin and the ASO. That was the first time I had heard Chris play the Haydn and it was wonderful. Stylistically he did many things differently than I have heard in the past and I would say that overall his interpretation was very Baroque like in many ways. He played all of the movements slightly faster than I have heard on various recordings and the cadenzas were a mix of Baroque style figures and Classical style melodic playing. Chris played the second movement almost with a dance feel while retaining the character of the movement and he even added a few trills on the return of the A section.

    After the concert I went up to Mark Hughes to thank him for the tickets and got to meet both Chris and Mike Tiscione.

    All in all a pretty cool night!
