I just gave my grandson my fathers VEGA chase E George Model E. That would be his great grandfathers trumpet. My dad purchased it in about 1930 and kept it until his death in 1997. It has been in a closet every since. I would appreciate any comments about the wisdom of giving an 11 year old first year trumpet player a horn like this. We plan of forbidding him to do any thing with it except practice at home and playing in school events. The horn has the identification SB4 Serial number 24306.

Does anybody have one and let a student use it. If so, what were the results.

    Thanks for you comments.

Does the 11 year old want to play trumpet? I was about that age when I started trumpet, but it was on a Yamaha student trumpet that was not worth as much as this horn is. I would limit his playing to where the trumpet is safe, but otherwise he should be good.

There are few days that are better than when you get a new horn.

Mike, in your line of work, I bet you could write another chapter or two. I've got a name for one of the Chapters: "This won't hurt me a bit". Aahh, not trumpet related? I remember when working the ER at Metro in Cleveland, evaluating a vaginitis in a 3 year old toddler, and with internal inspection, felt a hard object, and pulled out at toy trumpet. Didn't play my horn for a couple of weeks after that!

Sometimes sharing is NOT caring. Better to keep some things to ourselves. Shudder.
