Make sure your lip is clean, keep it moisturized, and ask if the Second person on the list can take the solos.
Mendez messed his face up bad playing on an injured face. Good Luck

    Cheers

I tried not to bite it, but when I was eating I would just hit it with my teeth.

This has to be a joke of some kind. If you bit your lip in the same spot enough times to damage it (I refuse to believe 50 is the number) then you have issues that we're not prepared to address. At best it sounds like you're trying to give yourself an excuse for not playing well tomorrow.

If you want to be a good trumpet player you have to take care of your lips.

Try rinsing your mouth with salt-water before bed and hope for the best.

I've bitten my lip eating before too. No fun. I've used some stuff called Gly-Oxide. Intended for canker sores, I think, but it provides a little relief. Mostly you just have to suck it up and play.

Rather then questioning if he is being serious, we should assume that he is, and try and help.

I was punched in the trumpet the morning before a concert, and I had a swollen lip, so I just got the next best person (with no implication that I am the best) to play any high parts, and cover him down the octave, he was proud that he had played that part, I was happy to not have blood on my concert attire ;)

Drink brine, and lots of it, it will keep the cut from becoming infected, and after some degree of pain, will be rather soothing.
