    I've been surfing again.
I've been looking at a Conn trumpet. How do I know what model it is, student or professional? (pile of crap or worth looking further)
    The serial number is K24676

    Thanks Paul

The trumpet was built in 1966-7. You'll need more information from the instrument to figure out more. Try the site below to help:

    The Conn Loyalist

If there is a picture that is also helpful.

Looks like a Director model to me, which was Conn's entry-level student horn at the time. It's OK for a beginner if it's in decent mechanical condition (valves work smoothly, slides all move, no huge dents, etc.), but I wouldn't pay much over $75 for it. If the case latches don't work, you'll have to figure in the cost of a new case or gig bag, too. Cosmetically, it doesn't look too bad.

    Thanks
My son has an intermediate Bach at the moment. Obviously I'll be after a professional instrument to improve on what he has got.
Even if it's realy cheap It's not worth getting a student model.

For Vulgano eyes, it looks pretty beat up. $75 if it works would be ok, though, for a marchng band/Mardi Gras take-with-you-camping kind of trumpet.

True....I was going to say $50, but if it was for a beginner, $75 would still beat renting. Of course, you might get one like it on eBay for even less. I'm no fan of Conn Directors, though.
