Converting a Bb trumpet into a C horn

    Bravo ComeBackKid! I applaud your "find a solution" attitude. It will be interesting to watch as you post regular updates as the process moves along.

    I (well, a guy who knew how to cut and solder and stuff) converted a rotary Bb into a good C, leaving the original length leadpipe; shortening the tuning slide and bell bow. In cutting down the valve slides the second valve was the biggest problem; my B's are on the flat side, the good news is that the 12 combinations are right on. I had it tested with one of those computer-controlled measurement devices, the intonation is better than most piston C's, and the sound and response are great.

    It is however, at best a crap-shoot whether a horn will turn out well or not. A fun project if you aren't afraid of wasting a Bb.
