How many here played cornet before learning trumpet? How many learned cornet after trumpet?
Well, I went trumpet-->french horn-->comeback after a few years(trumpet)-->flugelhorn-->trombone-->cornet.
I didn't learn cornet if you play trumpet you can play cornet
I considered buying a Yamaha cornet to start off but instead bought a pocket trumpet and switched to trumpet.
Cornet first, then trumpet.
Started out on cornet, about 4 years in got a trumpet. I still have a few cornets and enjoy playing them. Never take a cornet to a trumpet gig, though.
When my cousin got a new trumpet, he gave me his old cornet. Played cornet 6th - 9th grades, then trumpet after that.
It didn't have anything to do with choice or economics. I just had it, so that's what I played.
Started on trumpet. After marching season ended in 7th grade, I wised up and quit trying to do close-order drills and elaborate formations with a long horn. Switched to cornet, then to flugelhorn, and now I play anything brass except trombone.
Trumpet-cornet. About 3 months on trumpet. Then played trumpet and cornet. Have been playing only cornet for over year and half. Wish I started on cornet.

1970 Bugle 6 months in went to trumpet (But continued to play Bugle every day for 3 years - for at least 40 minutes min)
The Bugle gave me a huge range quickly, I had high C within 6 months - started Trumpet with Open Partials to High C.
We were taught Bugle by numbers - so I only new I could play a 7 at that stage.
1971 Trumpet played it learning music 6 years - practiced everyday 1 hour min during those 6 years
1980 Bass Trumpet
I don't think I have ever chronologically listed it like this before. Obviously I am a slow learner.
Cornet in Oz was mainly used in Brass Band Playing, and I rarely played in a Brass Band - still now have very limited use for it, but I do like the sound a lot.
