If possible, give the Wick B cup and one with "no letter" corresponding closely to the diameter of your trumpet mouthpiece a try.

The comparision chart sits on the upper left.

    I own a 4 and 4B.

When I put in a Bach 3C, the sound difference is literally comparable to apples and oranges.

Take your Director with you to see Terry, so he can measure the receiver. However, I'd be amazed if it doesnt' take a "normal" long shank cornet mouthpiece from that era . . . which means it should take most of today's normal cornet shanks too.

In any event, Terry can tweak his shanks to fit your cornet's receiver without any problem. My did a marvelous job tweaking a short shank #10 for me to fit a '39 Conn 80A I have that came originally with a '39 Conn "Harry Glantz" signature mouthpiece with a short shank. Surely he can adjust a shank to properly gap in your '58 Director at very little cost!

Plus . . . you'll know your mouthpiece gap is totally correct when you leave, and that the horn is able to perform at it's best!

    Hope this helps!
