Hi Wilmer, I love it, no matter how good you are you just never know what the first note will do out of a oboe maybe that's why we are called "crazy" I've gotten to the point to where you just let it fly chips fall..know what I mean? I have been trying to play some jazz on the oboe but keep getting lost do you remember Samuel Kraus? I have an old poster of him showing a trumpet along with Marcel....John
Sam Krauss was one of my teachers. Sam adored Tabuteau, his teaching employed the best of Tabuteau and Kincaid. The so-called "Chicago" school has it's roots in Philadephia's Curtis Institute. I played for Tabuteau once.......He said" It was almost like a musical instrument." This was a high compliment from him. Wilmer
I never got to meet these guys although Iam hearing about them (and still am)all of my playing time. Louis Rosenblaht was my main teacher, oboe and english horn. Ben Napier on trumpet, good times.. John
Are you familiar with the name Joseph Carl Firrantello a/k/a Joe Farrell ? He was a superior oboe player in a jazz setting.
