I have just recently got out my d trumpet after not playing it for a very long time. I was just wondering if anyone has any pointers on d trumpet playing?

If I haven't played a horn in a long while, I first check to see that nothing is moving inside...............

The biggest difference with the D trumpet is that a D comes out instead of a Bb. Play it enough to get used to the difference in pitch.

If it is not as well in tune as your Bb, practice the alternate fingerings (ie. 23 for 4th space Eb and 12 for 4th space E).

If you are trying to play baroque literature with it, just use your Bb exercises for extending range (slurs, arpeggios and the like).

Find someone else to play duets with. The intonation on every horn is a little different and you don't always get this under control all by yourself.
