    He might have been at a restaurant and been asked to give an autograph by the restaurant. Around here, I see a lot of plates at restraurants autographed by Univ. of Alabama sports figures (Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, Shaun Alexander, Joe Namath, etc.).

    Hmmm...that IS his signature.

    Doc does sign things like this usually on request from orchestras who are doing fund-raisers or by friends with reputable charity organization links.

    Or maybe he lost his plunger mute before a gig one night, and used a bowl instead. A fan might think that was cool and asked him to sign a bowl....

    Just a thought...
