A Bach 37 vs. a Bach 72. What qualities do you get with the different bell sizes? Better tone, projection, or is it like someone once said...size does not matter?

I believe it's pitch and tone, (not necessarily, better but different)

You're not changing the size of the bell. You're changing the taper. It changes the sound a little. I like the 72 best.

Like B15M said it's the taper leading to the bell flare. The Bach 43 bell is brighter than the 37,which is brighter than the 72.So basically the 43 is sound brightest while the 72 is darkest with the 37 somewhere in between.

Try both and see for yourself what qualities you get.

I do not have that option, thus, the genesis for the original question.

You live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, right?
There are many music stores where you can try both for yourself. Who knows, you might find that a 37 is more to your liking.

Yes, but I was more interested in the new CarolBrass lineup, in which you have multiple custom options with regard to build specs. Unfortunately, there are no dealers close by.

I suppose a Bach tryout may tell me what I need to know with regards to bell taper.

I would think that you could call them and tell them what you like about the Getzen and the Yamaha and what you don't like and they would recommend a mixture of parts for you.
