Anyone know where to find one? (a good one, not just a collector's item)

I know nothing about them, I just go where Google leads me.

    Bobby Shew has one

Seems to work like the good old echo cornet.
Uses a valve to change direction of the airflow between the bells
    Nice effects and superb playing

Wow, at first I thought you were talking about a bell over bell trumpet like the Courtois Evolution IV.

    That horn is VERY interesting.

Michael del Quadro, from Wichita, KS built a two belled trumpet for me a couple of years ago. My concept was to have something like the Bobby Shew horn where I could instantly switch between muted trumpet and open trumpet. My horn is activated by a rotary valve placed so that I can use the thumb of my left hand to control it.
He did really nice work on the horn and was a pleasure to deal with. You can see more about the horn here - Forum: trumpetherald.com

how does it play? Does the sound and feel rival any intermediate or higher trumpet out there?
And is it comfortable to hold?

and how much did it cost to have it made?

I know Marco Blaauw uses one a lot and has many commissioned many compositions for it. Most particularly on his CD "Blaauw." His is a self designed trumpet, build by Dieter Gärtner, from the company Gärtner und Thul in Düren, Germany." Here's his site with the info... even though someone beat me to it above.

I am 99% sure I played one a year or two back. I found it to be much too heavy for my tastes.
