    Hi,

Can anyone recommend an equivalent of Dr. Valve or Anderson Silverplating in the UK?

I have an old Couesnon Flugel which has sticky valves. I took it too my local repair shop who said that he could silver plate the valves but I wouldn't be satisfied with the results (I take that to mean it wouldn't be as new).

I spoke to McQueens in Manchester, they do rebuilds but again it is silver plate, I don't know if there is a copper / nickel rebuild service in the UK?

If I can't find a grade A service I may just sell this flugel and get something else :-(

    Thanks,

    Paul.

Talk to Will Spence. You absolutely do NOT want your valves silver plated.

By the way, the important part of the valve job is the honing of the casings. They are what wear the most. They need to be honed to make them perfectly round and straight - then the pistons are plated up to the new size. On a Couesnon Flugel you do not want as tight a fit as on a regular trumpet.

YES! You do not want some hack to destroy the Couesnon playing characteristics.

Can you explain more about this? I can't imagine why this would be true?
