Are you sure that's the same Ellis Marsalis that played on Joe Cool's?

I didn't say it was. The Ellis who played on "Joe Cool's Blues" was Ellis, father of Wynton. This Ellis is actually Ellis's father (or Wynton's grandfather).

I just saw Ellis (Wynton's father) Thursday. He looks and sounds as good as ever. I played in his big band for 3 years. It was the most pleasureable playing experience that I have ever had.

Ellis is doing great and I too sent my sympathies to the Marsalis family. I will be seeing him at Snug Harbor tonite with his trio. It's amazing but it's like a lesson in jazz history everytime I hear him play. Ellis is very much underrated in the jazz community.....

When I heard that Ellis' father passed my heart jumped through my throat because for one split secong I feared the worst! The radio guys in New Orleans need to learn to rephrase their statements when giving the news like that.

It was kinda like the "I'm Gonna Miss Bobby Shew" thread on TH. The guy who posted that thread scared everyone for nothing! AHHHH
