    Trax,

It is strange that you voted for Ed while having Maurice Andre in your Avatar :bleah:

As I never heard Ed playing nor have I any of his CDs I will "vote for those I know...

    Wynton Marsalis
    Maurice Andre
    Reihold Friedrich
    Rod Franks
    Phil Smith
    Alison Balsom
    Al Vizzutti
    Niklus Ekland
    Eric Aubier
    Hakan Hardenberger

These are not in order I just wrote as I was thinking...this is no 1,2,3 and so on as they all are number 1 for me

Probably I should get a jazz list too....

    Harry James
    Wynton Marsalis
    Maynard Ferguson
    Clifford Brown
    Satchmo
    Freddie Hubbard
    Dizzie

I think Brent's got it right. The title of the thread is artist. I listen to very little "trumpet music." I listen to good music. Guys like Maurice Andre and Maynard Ferguson are not trumpet artists, they're artists who happen to play the trumpet. Any violinist, singer, clarinetist etc. can appreciate them, the same way Brent appreciates non-trumpeters. And that's the way it should be.

I know he didn't answer the question, but I get the point he's trying to make. I'd have to say I like Gil Shaham and Rostropovich.

    Ok-:-)

Speaking of Gil Shaham....his version of "The Four Seasons" is ALWAYS in my car. The best I've heard!
