Herb was one of the greats. I like The Lonely Bull and Spanish Flea and The Dating Game Theme. He recorded over himself playing both trumpet parts in a lot of his pieces. He used another trumpet player for live venues. He started a second revolution in trumpet music. Plus he sold rights and labels for 100's of millions of dollars. He was hot.

I love all the songs mentioned thus far. But, I think my favorite is his rendition of the theme for Zorba the Greek. I don't know for sure but I always thought he double-tongued major portions of the piece as it progressively got faster. I was always amazed by the beautiful clear articulation which demonstrated his technical mastery.

Herb could put his own unique and tasteful spin on everything he and the band did. One of my favorites is "Desafinado". "The Shadow of Your Smile" is up there, too.
Here is a link to what appears to be some accurate data on Herb and the band members over the years. There is no mention of Ollie Mitchell, but Bob Findley was a member of the later groupings.

The lady on the cover of Whipped Cream is now in her early 70s...

When you buy the CD of this album, Herb was thoughtful enough to include a folded poster of the cover artwork ...... up now on a wall of the Turtle Shed.

My vote for Most Inspirational Album Cover of all time.:play:

But a favorite TB song? I tend to especially love the moody and haunting numbers, but there are just too many to try and pick a favorite.

Ollie Mitchell's website lists him playing with Herb in 1964 I believe. Also Ollie lives on The Big Island of Hawaii, I misspoke and listed him as living on Oahu.

I love "Zorba the Greek" too. At AT&T park in SF the P.A. system sometimes plays it during baseball games. (smile comes to my face every time)
    "Casino Royale" is another fave.
I have a soft spot for "Tijuana Taxi" though...it was one of the very first tunes I used to play along with as a young boy.

Ollie must have played for Herb before the actual band was formed in 1965.

Correct. I have a friend who plays in Ollie's big band there.

My vote: "This Guy's In Love With You". Song and arrangement trump performer.

If the OP means HA & the TB literally, then a toss up between "A Taste of Honey", and "Casino Royale".
