    Hi Guys-
Just out of total curiosity, what brand of trumpet, cornet, and flugel did Freddie Hubbard choose to play with?

Over the course of his career, Freddie played many different horns:

    - I remember him talking about using a cornet on Herbie Hancock's 'Empryean Isles' - but I'm not sure what kind

    - I believe he played a Conn for a while during the 60s

    - from the mid 70's on, he played a Colicchio at least part of the time

I have one of those Conn 8B Artists and I can't understand why it doesn't sound anything like Freddie's Conn.:dontknow:

Seriously, I can really get a sense of why he liked this Conn 8B ... a rich warm sound is designed into the instrument. It's really amazing the wide range and variety of sounds that Freddie could coax out of his trumpets, you really hear it on my fav cd so far: The Alternate Blues, where he's swapping solos on blues and some jazz with Diz and Clark Terry. Amazing.

I noticed from the list above .... Ambassador with a pickup? Does anyone know what pickup?

That session's from the 70's....I would think he was playing the Colicchio on that....
