Whatever works. In my case, I was recently shown by non other than trumpet virtuoso Vinnie Cutro, how to use the diaphragm to aid in acheiving apropriate air stream and in just a week's time I can feel a positive difference when playing above the staff.

Perhaps it's the abdominals surrounding the diapragm in conjunction with the muscles in the back, what do I know? All I can say is that I think of the diaphragm and with that my high notes are more effortless than ever.

Schilke B6, I've read the information and I stand humbly corrected. Perhaps I've benefited from a "placebo effect"- thinking diaphragm when in actuality it's my abs pushing the air.

Dammit I'm just glad to have better control of my range!

I'm astonished at how many of us have misunderstood the diaphragm up to this point; quite an epiphany. This deserves its own thread.
