Getting to the next level

    As long as it's resolved down to this, I think the best most obvious advice would be to always work on your weaknesses. It's fine to work through technical studies, but you always need to focus on what you are struggling with in isolation. Any particular interval or note that just isn't nails? Work it and work it and work it. Make your own practice routine focused around what it is you need to improve. All the practice of the usual technical studies won't help if they aren't centered on what you need the most work on.

    Practicing with he wrong technique unknowingly is the motivation for the "get a teacher" recommendations. I would spare you my much longer than necessary path on the trumpet!
