The Yamaha is better in the area of fit/finish and general QC. The Getzen does play better.

But CarolBrass is the equal of both the above. Some will call me a heretic, but CarolBrass is the new industry leader in quality and value. A tough act to beat!

At some point, in the pro trumpet world, fit and finish takes a 2nd, more like a 3rd seat to sound and playing characteristics. My teacher's old Mt. Vernon Bach must have had the worst lacquer because it looks like he dragged it out of a dumpster. But the sound .... whoah. With a sound like that, who cares what it looks like .... he doesn't, I don't, I'm sure his audiences don't care. He COULD simply get it refinished but, not with that sound. Too risky. Fit and finish is only really important when you're up close, examining the thing.

    Ditto what the Turtle said.

For example, it doesn't matter how precisely or 'pretty' Yamaha builds its
valve blocks, Getzen valves have a far better feel. I think anyone that has
owned both brands (except TrumeptDreamer apparently) would agree.

I've played some mighty seamy horns in my time as well. I think I'll stick to my Talisker tonight.....Cheers all.

I just read all 6 pages of this thread...*whew*...I've never seen/read the word "seam" so much in my life! WOW!!!

I have a seam on my Taylor (and the "notches" on the underside of the bell). I don't think that I ever really cared about it...I love how my horn looks, plays, feels, etc... :)
