Guys waht does a glissando mean when it follows a crotchet rest to a middle D?

What's a crotchet? Not a little crotch, is it? Don't want that in my music...

    Just pulling your leg...
A glissando following a rest is a little puzzling. Perhaps it means you should not attack the D but bend up to it from a lower harmonic. Not sure really.

Slide up to the D, with reaching the D on the beat.
