On the other hand, stink up the house = train wreck. But sadly, that's not brass specific. Sorry.
Ditto! Other trumpeter does that after Mexican or Chinese!! So shouting, "He's stinking up the house ", could lead to folks leaving the area! On the same vein, telling this guy to "Put some stink into it " would give license for him to "Stink up the house"!
Would "sizzle" be a synonym for "bright", maybe?
What's the best term for when you put more air into the horn and the tone starts to break up (sizzle)?
Also, need a word for when you overblow, too much air (to loud) and you lose control of the tone/pitch/whatever. Happens all the time with amateurs who try to play louder than they are able to.
Stink covers it all.
When I was a kid, it was 'blasting'.
Blasting works for me.
I've always liked, when the MD wants you to play louder, the expression, "Give it some welly."
Here in the US, we just say: Play it with Balls! And that kind sir is why this MD, jazz musician wears the baggy pants!
And I thought the Baggy Trousers were just the normal lack of dress sense shown by Americans. I never realised you had a medical condition.
the last one: fracking.
